Default V60 T5 Major Service £550

My 2019 V60 T5 is heading towards its 4 year service which is a major service, which my local main dealer is quoting at £550 which seems a bit steep. Interestingly when I try the service section on the Volvo website, every dealer I try has a "price on application" rather than a value I can compare.

I guess I'm left with no option but to phone around a few. I'm trying to get the best price from a dealer, so I get the free 100GB SIM plus Volvo Assistance.

I've not tried yet, but are they likely to negotiate over the price?

Everything is negotiable...... if they don't, go elsewhere.

Im assuming the Major service in including spark plugs which is why its quite pricey.

Good luck!!

Service prices are negotiable but in my experience discounts are relatively limited.

By all means ask but perhaps don't expect to get it for half price.

Had a 4th year service at local dealer last December on service plan admittedly. I have no idea what they did or didn't undertake I'll consult the pointless system generated tick sheet today I don't recall seeing spark plugs on there most appeared to be visual identifying opportunities to upsell.

This being my first Volvo I have never had a vehicle with so little information on maintenance and servicing
The same goes for the lack of a handbook ( others have said it would be to large)
But Mercedes managed it on my last car
I have been lucky in finding this forum and have learnt a great deal from others but not Volvo
With the recent changes to model choices I can’t see me getting another

A 4th service should be a major one which includes spark plugs. If it was about £500 it would be a major, if it was about £300 it would be a minor one.

It should go minor; major; minor; major etc...

On petrol cars the cam belt is included in the 8th service (which doubles the price more or less) but if you are not doing 18k miles or more per year then it is not actually due until 10 years.

Any information that you need for your Volvo XC60 is available on the Volvo Support site, better than any handbook, also includes links for map updates (which are free of charge)

Volvo don't really want owners undertaking their own servicing, hence little information provided.

A printed handbook is of course possible but it would be large; last time I had a printed Volvo handbook, for a 2015 V40, the main handbook was 450 pages, with an additional 150 page supplement covering sat nav and infotainment.

I suspect Volvo are trying to save some trees, as well as trying to save production costs.

I don’t trust main dealers, (many bad experiences and rip-off’s) who knows what they do? I possibly will get my 2019 S60 T5 13,000 miles at my local Volvo Specialist? I’ll get the breakdown from LV= , don’t care about free sim. I think as far as I can make out the extended warranty is still valid as long as the garage is vat registered and the service is done to Volvos specs.

I’m that paranoid about main dealers not doing what they say they’ve done I’m getting my mate to change the oil using the correct spec oil Motul Specific Volvo RBS0-2AE 0w-20 next week. 6 months after I purchased car from a Volvo Dealer.

Spark Plugs don’t need replacing after 13,000 miles.

BTW I took my S60 in to my local Volvo dealer to get the memory seat buttons replaced because the number 2 button was sticking in, they didn’t replace the unit! I still have problem now.

I went back there, the guy on service said he watched the mechanic install the replacement. Looked on my dashcam, no sign of the service manager near the car. He told me he would get back to me to get it sorted…. No phone call.

From US Volvo site, I can’t see how a Volvo dealer can justify charging £550 for minor work.
