Default Geartronic AGAIN aaahhh

Hello all
I have in my possession a late 06 v50 t5 MY07 geartronic with 70k miles and no issues, my question to all you clever clogs, should I change the atf, it has not been changed before, I don't believe what Volvo state ie fluid is for life except extremes, I think that's a load of bo###cks, if I do I will use the drain and fill method. I know to use 3309 fluid and am thinking of Smith & Allan fluid full synth 3309, was going to go for mobil 3309 but I dont think that is full syth.
any opinions on all of the above?

Regards

Volvo, as you know, will say that the 'box is sealed for life, whereas Saab used the same gearbox in a few of their cars & they change the fluid as part of their service regime (every 72,000 miles I think) so yes I agree, it needs changing. Mine's being done in the next month or so

I'm seeing this more and more to change so I think or rather I'm sure I will, I changed the fluid in my old 2000 v40 at a 100k and that was like watered down tar. What atf do you think you will use?

Like I said above I'm thinking of using Smith & Allan 3309 full synth, it's a very good price, take a look, Volvo want about £135 just for the fluid (2 drain & fills) 8ltrs

Interesting choice, never seen that make before, looking at the American forums they sometimes use fully synthetic fluid , but i don't know how it performs long term , everyone on this forum goes for jws3309 and mannol jws 3309 multivehicle being the prefered budget choice , its about 60 ukp for 20 litres , which is enough for a several flushes using the gibbons method
good luck Dave

Also, worth checking step by step guide to oil change in both 5 and 6 speed boxes.
A bit of it here:

Cheers Mr G, that really helps, I see you are using Smith & Allan full synth with no probs so I shall also use it, that is if you don't mind, once again, cheers.
