Default Heater controls - water valve

Hi,

Is there a way you can test the thermostat side of the water valve? I know you can actuate it’s temp settings and it opens and closes based on lever position but I’m always on hot, I’ve checked the activation of the cable and lever on the water valve it moves but I suspect the plunger that delivers hot or cold (cooler) water to the heater is stuck.

Just some background my car is an sa import (recent) and had the engine stat removed and heater levers jammed up.

If it’s a sealed unit once I take it out I’ll just fit a new one and won’t bother trying to dismantle it.

Thanks all

I was permanently too hot in mine too. I was glooming with the thought of a stuck water valve when I found two problems which cooled me down and made the water valve behave!

First I lubricated all the cables to the controls, the valve and also to the fresh air vents using just an aerosol oilspray. Squirting the oil as best I could down the cable ends.

Whilst I was cursing under the dash doing this PIA task I found the levers would move but the vents and valve were not all fully operating at their end. This was because the outers were slipping in the clamps!

Once I'd applied the centre punch to give the clamps a bit of grip the car was a different place, cool and with a controllable heater. Goes from cold to erupting volcano easy as moving the lever....

Worth a check.

Cheers, I’ll strip it and take a look. In case brookhouse are on the forum that wasn’t a slant at them, more the cost of the unit compared to the function it provides.

Peace and love ✌🏻

Did you know a Jaguar heater valve can be made to fit? It's much, MUCH cheaper!
