Cool Manual GLT saloon swap/px for GLT Auto estate

I just got this GLT saloon a couple of weeks ago, it's fine I love it.

I will drive it until whenever I can swap or px it for a GLT auto estate, which I find more useful and have a spare gearbox and a full trade rack for.

I am in Manchester.

Please note that I could swap it for an auto estate with a wrecked gearbox.

There was a leak from the heater feed pipe that has been fixed.

I think it will get a new thermostat soon (heater is blowing cold, but the engine is not overheating).

Radio works, but I have been told there is a fault with the cassette.
I use a radio mp3 plugged into the cig. lighter.

I have put photos of the car on my web:
http://www.coffinman.co.uk/240_glt_saloon.htm

I can't send PMs yet because I haven't made 30 posts.
If you want to email me direct there is a link at the top of that page.

That's a cracking colour combo that blue with beige leather

Cassette packing up is common, as too is the rusty patch around the lower rear window on saloons.

Good luck & all the best

I've seen a few pics of 240's with rust in that area Paul.

Neither of mine do .... yet.

Does anyone know why it occurs and what steps can be taken to avoid it.

I wonder what exactly is the failure point for rust to start there.

Hoping to avoid on mine.

Well my old GLT Saloon (MRV860Y) had early signs of this when I p/ex'd it.

I don't know for sure the reason, but always thought it was due to the sunroof drain channels being blocked causing the water to 'stack up' in the pipes & overflow. The drains run down the C pillar IIRC.

Looking again at the pics of this one, I think the 3rd pic from the bottom shows it does have a sunroof.

Also I remember, after washing or after a rainfall the water can form a 'puddle' on the rear screen rubber & the screen at exactly that point if parked on an angle. I guess that won't help. HTH's

Thanks for that Paul it would explain why mine are OK.

Neither have a sun roof.
