no its not a general problem considering the many many 1000's of s60 / V70 and S 80 sold here in the last 10 years . Yes it does happen but the odds are extremely slim unless you are one of the unlucky ones in the poll above .. Its not really statisticly accurate on a forum like this is it indicating 30% of volvos have DIM problems , in real life i would put it below 1% ..

Let's face it, almost everyone who has had a DIM problem will have been to this thread and ticked Yes, most of those that haven't won't have even read this thread or bother to tick the No box.

So Clan's probably right on the money. My old '01 V70 had no problems and my colleagues '99 S80 is OK too (well the DIM is OK, the rest variable!).

The fact the thead is apparent shows there is problem, just because you and your friends is ok doesn't mean that there is no probs - and so why have volvo changed (uprated) the dim. it's easy to sit back when there is no probs your car and say this but this problem is apparent and costing people real money

Volvo also claimed there was no problem with the ETM.

The ABS module in the later 850, V70 etc. also.

However, I don't think they are worse than other manufacturers.

It stands to reason that if you look after your existing customers they will come back to your brand again and again - Isn't that what used to happen to Volvo? People bought one and then had the brand for life. Now under the perhaps more indifferent Ford management that sentiment has gone.

In this car market I would imagine taking a 'hit' on subsidised serviving costs i.e. DIM's, ETM's etc would mean I'd be more likely to buy a Volvo again. I don't see many new V70's driving around on our streets at the moment and after this V70 I am not keen to buy a Volvo again.

That is if Volvo survives of course.....

Volvo will survive but I would think twice before buying another.

It's unusual that Ford may have made Volvo worse. (Of course, these faults could be entirely down to Volvo staff and may be nothing to do with Ford). Volvo may have just had a run of bad luck.

Ford rarely makes a manufacturer worse. They are usually a success story.

They made a stunning impact on Aston Martin and took it from the brink of collapse to one of the most successful and desirable brands in the world.

They made a massive difference to Land Rover. Their new cars are in a different league to the older ones. They still have their niggles but nowhere near as bad as they used to be.

Look at Jaguar. They were on their @rse and now their cars are stunning. Sure, they're not making a profit but their cars are very good... much better than they used to be.

Mazda was on its knees too and now they are doing better than ever.

If you want an example of how not to do it, think General Motors and their pathetic attempt to revitalise Saab... a disaster that is obvious to everyone.

Default Cluster repair

I sent my cluster from a Volvo S80, from a 2001 model to Cluster Repair UK LTD twice to have it repaired, they charged us £308.85 for the job and it still would not work.
we contacted them as we felt it was rather a lot of money to pay and for it to not work. After a bit of haggling and numerous phone calls and an Email they returned a cheque for £ 160.00. In the end we decided to sell the car and cut our losses rather than pay Volvo to repair with their high prices. I should add that the car in question was our 9th Volvo and we have always been happy with them as a car. We felt the electrical systems are letting this model down. We have now bought a SAAB 93, still staying Swedish!!!
