Volvo V40 performance upgrades
Hi there everyone. I'm new to the forums as well as a new owner of a V40. My knowledge of car upgrades in general is minimal; let alone specifically with regard to Volvos. A complete newbie to say the least.
I have a 2014 Volvo V40 T4 that has had its engine changed from the ecoboost engine to the later version present in the 2015-2019 versions of the car. I would like to try to increase the performance of the car, but I struggled to find relevant information regarding this specific model. But this is probably the best place to find information. Basically what specific upgrades can be made? Such as a bolt on turbo upgrades, exhaust, injectors ect. My goal is to try get it to around 300hp. I appreciate all the responses and look forward to hearing from all of you. Thanks Last edited by Thompson34; Jul 12th, 2021 at 17:44. Reason: grammer |

Hi there,
I'd say the upgrade potential depends on the exact engine that's now in the car. If from 15 onwards will be a Volvo VEA engine. These have a number in format B4204Txx. The B4204T11 would possibly go to 300 with a map - bigger turbo, lower compression and bigger crank shaft. If its one of the lesser powered versions like B4204T37 these would go to 210 maybe. A bigger turbo maybe a problem on these with 11.3:1 compression - it's possible the T11 type has a lower 10.3:1 (IIRC) to allow more boost without detonation. Also these engines have a smaller crank. |

Id sell it and buy a T5. In this day and age its easier to buy a car designed with a certain level of performance rather than modify a lesser one.
If it was a Ford Focus or something like that where there is a choice of aftermarket go-faster parts, I get it, but on the V40 (whilst some focus parts might fit) that option is much more limited. The T5 is a real street sleeper.
