Default What's my v70 fuel pump?

Hi all,

Sorry you don't get a prize but the warm glow of satisfaction of helping. I'm lost and in need of some assistance. My v70 from sept 2000 is a regular petrol 2.4l 140bhp and the car is stranded at present. The fuel pump has been identified as the reason for my recent beakdowns and in trying to find a replacement I have drawn a blank.

The existing pump looks different to all the OEM or pattern ones I've found on the net look different. The difference being mine doesn't have a plug socket. It just has the feed lines. There is what appears to be a Bosch product code 0580313020. I can't see any Volvo codes and the pump has that cross in a circle. The sound proofing is ripped above the sender like someone has been in there but the pump looks like an original, could it be an aftermarket if it only has a Bosch code. Can I use a pattern pump even if I don't use the plug socket on the top of the plastic lid to the pump?

Help anyone please?

Hi

I have a couple of 1998 / 1999 V70 fuel pumps which look like this.

They definitely include the electrical connector.

Is yours the old (Phase 1) body style, or the Phase 2 (2001 onwards, but maybe something unusual about yours).

Maybe you misread the Bosch number?

How have you diagnosed the fault? One test would be to see if voltage is getting to the connector - but how would you do that if there is no connector? Power must get to the pump somehow!

Have you tested your fuel pump relay?

Steve

If you put your reg into https://www.autodoc.co.uk/ what fuel pump does it suggest?

This looks like a later pump. Are you positive of the bad pump diagnosis as it is often down to a bad pump relay. This is the pump you have.

Mine is a MKIi body style pre 2001, they do exist and were only a short run before a change in 2001.

So I found my answer might be it doesn't matter if the fuel supply unit / pump has a wiring plug receiver on top as long as it has a wiring plug on the underside of the sender cover as indicated in the Haynes manual I borrowed and shown in photo attached. Bottom far left, 4.8.

It's possible I've got the Bosch code wrong given the quality of the photo allow some hits did lead to Volvo but most links lead to Alfa or lancia

So now I need to find out if fuel supply units sold come with an underside of sender wiring plu connector. If so, I think I've found a pump.

https://www.partsinmotion.co.uk/fuel...2980138-detail

My can has been in reliable since 4 th November. The main dealer said they no longer made or stock parts and the car only had ETM error codes. Then the sounded rough as bag of nails, only to find 3 of the 5 coils packs were shot and other two on way out.

The pump is intermittent, the relay test in tolerance but with the seats out and sound proofing the pump doesn't sound happy and when it stops the mechanic gave a tap and it worked again. Which I thought if the wiring was on top would be that but it's not, the wiring is under the sender.

How do I know if any of the pumps/units come with said underside wiring plug?
