Default '63 1800s

Regrettably for sale is my '63 1800S. I had the intention of stripping the older paint restoration (this is probably 15yrs old and paint prep was not the greatest) back to bare metal, new chrome, mechanical checks and some interior detailing, but a change in personal circumstance sadly means that I can’t undertake the project and so the car needs to find a new home who will cherish the car as I would have.

Registered in June 1963 (only two keepers) the car is completely correct for the model year and features the wonderful ‘cow-horn’ front bumpers, the heavy metal ‘egg-crate’ grill, the larger air intake grill, wheels featuring the ‘V’ emblem with additional beauty rings, 1800S rear badge, ‘hockey-stick’ door chrome and all the lovely interior features of the early Jensen cars; cubby-hole rear seats, simple front seats, 6500rpm tachometer and so on.

Mechanically the car starts on the button and a her history folder shows the engine has been rebuilt in the past with new pistons / rings and the car has seen very little use since. She retains her original oil-cooler and review of the engine bay shows many lovely original features correct to the twin-carb 1.8 litre engine. She engages gear (4 speed plus Overdrive), drives with no alarming noises and the braking system seems fine, though of course this was all within my re-commissioning list. The car is fitted with a stainless steel exhaust from the front box back and she also has new rear shock absorbers and new tires all round. I honestly feel that with very little effort the car would fly through her MOT, even though she is now MOT/TAX exempt! She will need to be trailered away as she needs recommissioning first.

The interior is just lovely, largely original save for the carpet set. The dash remains crack free (no nasty holes and a nice period radio), the front seats in the early cars lack the adjustment of the later cars, but these are still in great condition and the door-cards (correct Volvo embossing), rear seats (with cubby holes), front map pockets, roof lining etc are all in great condition and this really needs very little attention to get spot on.

Being an older restoration the car is now calling out for a bare metal respray. The bodywork is in good condition, the underbody condition is fab, jacking-point / outriggers / floor pans appear rock solid. The car largely shows no major corrosion, it really is just the quality of the prep / paint and couple of areas around the car that need attention before a good quality repaint and re-chrome.

Ultimately made most famous by the TV series ‘The Saint’, starring Roger Moore, the car also comes with a highly desirable Saint / Simon Templar inspired number plate, valued in excess of £2000! The car really has the making of a potential show / concours example and with the values of 1800S / P1800 models continuing to increase there’s no doubt of the future investment potential.

Asking £13000, but open to sensible offers. PM me for further info.
