'Slow' clutch pedal
I've noticed that the clutch in my XC70 is a bit 'slow'. Not heavy, it's light if you depress slowly. More like it's over damped and so is difficult to depress quickly and also rises a little more slowly than with other cars I have driven. No slip/judder or any other typical clutch problems. Curious if this is familiar to other D5 XC70/V70 owners.

might just be the difference in a hydraulic clutch like you have now and a cable clutch which your previous cars might of had, cable clutch pedal returns more quickly and has a bit more feel than the hydraulic

Aye, could be that. Certainly the hydraulic clutch does feel very different to the cable clutch on my old Skoda.
Only really noticed it when trying double de clutch so far. Cheers, iep |

I would take a small bet and say its the clutch master cylinder. I have a P2 S60 and mine started like that. After a few months it got worse until the pedal used to stick half way down. Not all the time, just when it felt like it. Used to happen more often after a few fast gear changes.

The pedal on my xc90 has always been a bitbslow compared to my other volvos. Hasnt changed on 40k miles tho sometimes seems worse if cold. I asked dealer to check and they reckoned its characteristic.
You get used to it once you accept spirited double se clutch doesnt really work! R. |

Thanks for the thoughts guys. My gut feeling is that it is probably okay and 'characteristic' as the dealer said to RoscoMac.
Worst case though. How bad would a clutch master cylinder be? I think I recall it lives in the clutch housing and is a bit of a bugger to fix? Cheers, iep |

Dont find that on my S60 D5 - but not sure if the XC has a different clutch setup, might be worth bleeding the clutch slave circuit perhaps? incase youve got some air in there..

Slow returning clutch pedal xc70
2005 xc70 93000miles.
Just come back from 300 mile round trip and my clutch pedal is sticking half way up, started being a little slow to return in the last 100 miles then it got to the point where it needed a foot under it to get it back up! Clutch working fine and not slipping or juddering. Any suggestions welcome please. Cheers Ade |
