"No rear belts used" message
My S80 has decided to inform me permanently that there is "1 New Message", and that message is "No rear belts used". This seems to be all the time, while no-one, or thing, such as shopping bags, are on the rear seats.
Any thoughts please? |

Yep mine does the same although I don't get the "1 New Message" bit just "No rear belts used", it stays on for a while then disappears.

Mine only does this when I have opened the rear doors prior to driving. It seems the rear door sensor (likely linked to the interior light switch on the rear door) "remembers" that the rear doors have been opened, and then expects someone to put a seatbelt on....when that doesn;t happen (becase I just opened the rear door to put my jacket on the back seat) I get the message.
If the rear doors are not touched before driving, the message doesn't appear...

As Martin said. You will get this if you open a rear door prior to setting off. If you aren't opening the door then maybe you have a stuck switch, though then you would likely get a meassge telling you the rear door is open instead.

Is there anything on the floor in front of the rear seats? My V70 does this if I put a bag on the floor even though there is nothing on the seats. It even comes on if the bag only has a loaf of bread in it!! I assume there are some sensors underneath.

It didn't happen yesterday, I'm happy to report. I don't know what the difference was. I'll keep an eye on the situation. I often have shopping bags in the rear footwells, so thanks for that, that's a good shout.

I think the point there is that you have probably opened the door to place the bag on the floor - exactly as has been pointed out by MartinK and TT82

I would be very suprised if the sensor was on the floor. I'm pretty sure that on the front passenger seat, the sensor is in the seat base...if you put anything heavy on the seat (even a laptop), it sometimes thinks there's a passenger there, and starts the "no seatbelt" warnings...

I have a baby seat in the back of mine, and every time I turn the ign on it tells me that the right rear seat belt is used. This is regardless of whether i've opened the door or not.
I don't know why it feels the need to tell me this all the time. I just press 'read' button every time I get in it. |
