Default Saw a Volvo 960 3.0 with a turbo!

I recently arrived home from Sweden, stayed in Kiruna and then travelled to the south, Umea, Sundsvall and Stockholm.

I could not believe how many old Volvos were on the roads, Sundsvall stayed in a self-canteen house at a quiet normal village down the road a young bloke his Volvo 960 3.0 had fitted a turbo rolling 276bhp! madness!!

I had a nice chat his English was not 100% good, I asked him about the compression ratio must be very high for a fit turbo, and asked him if he had to change the piston head to reduce the compression ratio because there is a risk of running lean melt the piston, he said nah I don't have an issue for many years, not necessary change the compression ratio.

Volvo's 3.0 has a 10.7 compression ratio is that very high for a fit turbo? I did though it would have blown the head gasket off! must be a strong engine on Volvo.

The factory built at least one 960 with a twin-turbo set-up, one turbo fir cylinders 1,2 and 3, the other for cylinders 4,5 and 6. It was apparently rather lively, but rather too fond of high octane petrol.

Sounds like a T6 swap from an S80. Been done many times in Sweden.

One with the stock tiny turbos:
