I thought I'd add my experience here and kindly ask for some advice.

Our Volvo V60 D4 started having issues in February-March. The turtle light came on and the car would nearly grind to a halt. Unfortunately, my local garage (non-Volvo) were unable to replicate the issue on multiple visits. So, I booked it in at my local independent Volvo garage in Bradford. They were super-helpful, but the sad news is that I had to pay ~£900 to have the EGR valve replaced.

A few months later and the engine light is back on, this time my local garage (non-Volvo) were able to pull the P04D9-00 & P2009-00 codes from the computer. I presume this means that the cooler requires replacing? They also mentioned that it looks like some fasteners are missing from the EGR valve, but I'm having to take their word for it.

I am now looking for advice, please. Do I go back to the independent Volvo garage, as they did the original work? Will they be able to arrange goodwill? Do I go directly to Volvo customer support? The car has been serviced by many different garages in the past, not always a Volvo one.

Any advice you wonderful people could give would be most appreciated.
Quick update. After a few weeks of staring at me, the engine light is now no longer illuminated 🤷*♀️

Keep everything crossed. My EML came and went a few times until the turtle showed up.

Default XC60 EGR Pipe Failure

XC60 D4 2017 (about the last of the old model). 72K miles.

Recently full service by Volvo (Dealer FSH) and I am told that the EGR pipe is leaking. Cost of them replacing it £475 (inc VAT). I reckon they think it's abut 3hrs labour and the rest for the part.

Anyone have any experience of this?

For your amusement other offers to repair included:

Starter Battery (the big one) £375 inc VAT (Parts Dept have it at £207 so that's £168 labour!).

Windscreen £1362.60 inc VAT.

On a positive note it all comes with a whole year's warranty!

If your D4 is the 2.0l 4 pot then yes I had one and it also leaked fumes from the EGR pipe. Can't remember the cost of the fix but it was a few years ago now anyway. Could smell fumes in cabin for a while then it started billowing proper smoke out of the heater vents! Nearly crapped myself.

Many thanks, Gavin
What was the outcome of this, Gavin? I have just been quoted ~£800 from an independent to replace the cooler. Already spent ~£900 to replace the EGR.
