V60 Polestar import various questions
Hi All
Been a while since I have been on this forum. I still own a C70 2.3T5 2000 but have recently bought a 2014 V60 T6 Polestar import from Japan. I paid top whack for this from a garage but have found a lot of issues with the car and could do with some advice from members who have experience. First off this car had the polestar performance pack installed but was then remapped after. So does that mean the polestar performance pack would have been wiped and is no longer a thing? Next I know the car has gone to a Volvo dealership for work which means potentially the remap has been wiped and put back to standard. This would make sense as the 0-60 times I am getting are stock times! Next on the list is the Sat Nav doesn’t work at all and I’m told it was working but a Japanese map. I’m told it was turned off when mapped. So can I turn the Sat Nav back on using VIDE DICE and VIDA or would this have to be mapped back in? If I take to Volvo to have the UK map update £40 will they enable the Sat Nav as part of that or charge me more? Next in sport mode I get very little to no extra performance. 0-60 times are pretty much identical. All been timed using a GPNS analyser. The car has thrown a load of codes which included the ABS light on and Traction control disabled. This I was told was down to all the sensors being changed to UK version from Japanese version due to a sensor being damaged on a damaged wheel which was replaced. However the car went to Volvo to be reset and they said you must drive 40 miles to calibrate the sensors which I think is absolute crap and the light will go off on its own. However one of the codes is rear right ABS sensor mechanical failure. Which makes more sense and tells me it needs replacing. I think the ABS sensor has caused multiple codes to be thrown so hope that clears most when sorted. Would it having the codes cause the performance mode to be restricted or not activated? Currently erased all the codes and all lights have currently gone off. I suspect when I drive the car and it goes through some cycles the codes will come back and let me know if the ABS sensor is faulty. There are other things which I won’t go into on this post but mention the one issue that did thrown back up immediately is the forward motion sensor/camera showing a short circuit or open condition. Could that be due to being unplugged? Know there is a lot on there to address so thanks in advance to any responses that give me a better understanding of what’s what. Regards JP |

The polestar was never offered on Japan market, what a lot importesr do, they use vdash to convert the car and ecu tune from them which is similar to polestar, as for Navi is specific hardware to Japan. Even when you do install map it won't have all the functions. Best bet replace the unit for eu version, good thing is that Japan don't put Most protection so the used unit should work strait without trip to the dealer. Ring volvo with your vin and ask if polestar was done, they will know, it will be in the system. If not then you have been lied to and ask seller to sort the issue or return the car.

If an ABS sensor has gone, your dash will light up like a Xmas tree and lots of systems won't work.
Diagnostics will tell you exactly which one if duff. Replace it and go for a drive and it'll sort itself out. They not cheap, about £110 last time I got one. T. |

Before I had a scanner, I knew, unless it was something a lot more serious, that an ABS sensor had failed. Just outside the 3 year new car warranty. I guessed the NSF ( exposure to salt spray etc). Wrong. It was the OSF one.
Replacement NSF was a well respected make, not far off Volvo OEM price. The OEM one was so corroded in place, it was destroyed in the removal process. Replacement OSF was a lot cheaper one. If I trawl through old E-mails I could probably name the makers. Both have outlived the OEM ones by 6+ years ! |

I think as a bare minimum, the dealer/garage (assuming it was purchased from one) should fix some of these issues and pay for them. Is there a warranty with it?
There's a lot of problems for a car that you've just bought. I'd be temped to go down that path and get them to contribute to the costs. No way I'd buy a car and have to go fixing ABS issues, to be told it had Polestar when it sounds like it doesn't (Japan doesn't even offer Polestar!). I don't think Volvo can wipe a genuine Polestar remap package via a software update. If that was the case, Polestar would be disappearing off cars left, right and centre. Its more likely that its had a "tune", which isn't Polestar, but is being described as one. Volvo will be able to clarify that though. As if a genuine Polestar remap was installed, it'd be on their system. You've got some "digging" to do, but it sounds costly. In my view, you shouldn't be paying for it. If the dealer didn't offer anything towards the costs (if its from a garage), I'd just hand the car back and buy one that wasn't an import. Even more so if I found out it was sold as a Polestar and it wasn't.

Wouldn't mind knowing what brand you used. I had to buy two over the past few years. |

It has the badge on the rear It has the twin exhausts It has the updated discs and front Calipars. Sports mode hardens the suspension up. I mean I don’t know what the R design has out of all the above. I will check it all out but I wouldn’t have thought the garage would have lied. The owner has had 5 x previous Polestars and he knows I’m a Volvo fanatic. It has been back to Volvo and they have 100% took the map off and put it back to stock because it’s limited to 142mph. I did plug VIDA in and have a look at codes etc and settings etc. Thanks again for your input. |

Since posting the first time I have downloaded vdash. I haven’t had chance to use it yet and the car went back tonight to go back to Volvo to sort out the ABS sensors and have the Sat Nav turned on and map install. I’m hoping that will clear all the current codes. So is Vdash better than VIDA? |
