Sensus Sat Nav USB update without s/w update
Hi all,
I am trying out an experiment on my 2011 V60, to see if I can update the maps without having to do the required dealer-only IAM s/w update. If anyone has a 2012, 2013, 2014, or 2015 map update DVD, I am basically after a small "UPDATE.INF" file from disk 1. If anyone can help me with this that would be brilliant, ill be happy to share the method if this works. The method will basically 'trick' the latest USB download into appearing as an older 2012, 2013, 2014, or 2015 update. Thank you. Kash. |

If you have the Sensus connect system, you can do it yourself with a 32gb usb. To see if you have the sensus connect, easiest to figure out is the globe button. If you have the globe button all you need to do is download the software from Volvo, put it onto a usb drive and plug in the usb stick into the car from the center armrest. Then the car should automatically detect it and should do an update.
Other systems like normal sensus and RTI, I dont know much about. But if you have 2014+, the car will most likely come with the sensus connect |

An update - Looks like i managed to get this working (older 2011, non-connect Sensus)
You can see above the latest maps available (2020) on the old Sensus 2011 system with 0997 software. Last edited by kashavsehra; Aug 9th, 2024 at 08:53. |

Prerequisites:
1) You will need an unlock key for any previous update that you may have done on your specific car, even the free ones that Volvo used to provide. It would have been sent to you from email "web_orders@here.com" 2) You will need the DVD1 corresponding to the unlock key in the prerequisite above. Or at least the update.inf file from that corresponding disk if you can find someone willing to email you the file, it is very small, only 160 bytes. 3) Latest Sensus maps downloaded onto a 32GB memory stick as per the usual Volvo procedure. Latest available seem to be Dec 2020 (V30.20.03) from the website below https://www.volvocars.com/uk/support...ads/maps/iam21 note there is a comment which says "There are no more map updates planned for this system." Procedure:
1) Insert the prepared map USB into your PC and open up the file view. Delete the existing UPDATE.inf file from the USB. 2) Copy the UPDATE.inf file obtained from the DVD corresponding to your available key to the USB disk, i.e. at this stage have now replaced the original UPDATE.inf from the latest maps with the one you have a matching key for. 3) Using any hex editor for example HxD, load up the HASHLIST.DAT file obtained from the DVD corresponding to your available key. 4) You will see on line 1C0, the words UPDATE.INF.. followed by a checksum, and the same in hex, 55 50 44 41 54 45 2E 49 4E 46 00 00 followed by 8 digits checksum. Highlight/right click copy this 8 digit checksum. 4) Now load up the HASHLIST.DAT file from the USB. You will see the same file-listing but with different checksums. Look again at line 1C0, highlight the 8 digit checksum, and right click paste to update the checksum, and then save the file. This basically corrects the checksum to match with the replaced update.inf you have the key for. In my example, the 2020 maps original checksum was 12 6E B4 BA, and I replaced it with A3 C0 31 2B which was from the 31438676 2015 map DVD. 5) Safely eject the USB, and now you can use this modded USB to update the maps. You will be asked for a key, which will be the same key that you already have. USUAL No Responsibility Disclaimer ... This worked for me, but i cant take any responsibility for any issues. Credit goes to the original guidance from the volvo4life.es website. Last edited by kashavsehra; Aug 9th, 2024 at 08:46. |

Update.inf file for 2015 DVD
If it helps anyone that already has a key for the 2015 maps, Volvo P/N 31438676, the below 160 bytes is the content for the update.inf for this.
