Question What the feck have i done??

Somebody help pleeease! I have managed to make my car undrivable!
After getting a new intercooler fitted i was still getting limp mode when going over 70mph and a very loud squealing sound when accelerating , so i decided to take all the i/c hoses off to check that none had burst. After finding that they were all ok i put them back on and now i am getting hardly any power from the engine at all! It doesn't even rev properly ,almost as though its not getting enough fuel. When i tried to drive it i was down to 20mph trying to get up a hill. It was fine immediately before i took the hoses off ( apart from the limp mode at 70mph and the squealing noise)
I have checked all the sensor connections that are near to the hoses that i was working on but cant find anything untoward .
Anybody got any ideas ? I would be most grateful if i could get my lovely old Volvo back up and running .

The only thing I can think of is that i have maybe killed the Maf by sticking a bit of blue roll paper into the housing to clean out some dust . Possible maybe that there was a spark of static or something? But im not sure that it sounds much like faulty maf symptoms . Unplugging it doesn't really make the car run any better, it just smokes more.

Thanks for your reply Tapani .
One of those Mityvac,s sure would be very handy right enough. However what gets me is that this only happened after I took the Intercooler hoses off and put them straight back on , which would suggest that i have maybe accidentally pulled off a vacuum hose or an electrical connection for a sensor or something , but i have checked and re-checked and cant find anything. The MAF is the only thing I can think of.

Do you know what is causing the squealing? This might be the source of the problem. Do you think it might be the turbo, the vacuum pump or maybe the injection pump?
In what condition is your oil and what type of oil are you using?

if the car runs okay with the pipe disconnected from the TCG to the turbo then albeit in limp mode and not running rough i wonder if the vnt is sticking and the squealing is that. to check if the arm or the vnt is sticking you will have to either get borrow a mitty vac and it should read 25 hg or above. or put the car on ramps with you under the car or get to see the actuator arm start the car and the arm should do a full cycle. with the symptoms that spoke about i would suspect that the problem is there.

Matt,
It is hard to tell where the squealing is coming from since it only happens when engine is under load . Could be one of a few things ( could be the turbo or the exhaust manifold leaking for example) . Oil was done during a service last year at a garage and looks ok, level is ok too.
Mike,
I can borrow a set of ramps and an ordinary vac gauge to visually check the vtn and check the vac pump .
Thanks for your answers guys

from the vac pump you should have 25 hg and above.tap into the outport from the TCG and you should get the same as you press the throttle less vac for you info.
