Right finally been under the car today and I dont think I've been very successful in any IDing, I've got some pitiful photos that dont really show anything as it's been difficult and I don't really know what I'm looking for + the rack is covered in layers of crap.
I think I have determined that mostly all pipes running to the rack and the ps system are screw fit with a nut? The only number i could find is the number on the metal plate that's attached to the rack on my car which is 0665961. The number in the same place on the rack i bought is 9157051, I'm not sure if that number is of any significance for IDing? I checked the gaiters on my car for the smi stamp but there wasn't any, I couldn't see any speed sensor but again it was all a bit of a mess so I can't be sure. I couldn't find any sticker or number on the rack itself. This is all I was able to determine today if anyone has any more advice for me it's all welcome I'm tired and covered in ps fluid I need some hope! will be back under the car in a couple of days. is there any specific vantage points to look from? |

Is there a reason you're thinking your current rack can't be rebuilt?
I had lots of issues with my original rack, my 06 xc70 was on 190k at the time. I tried finding a new replacement, but Volvo told me there are 13 variations?! So I sent it to Lion Automotive who specialise in rebuilding Volvo racks. The chap there was brilliant, and knew these racks inside out. He was very confident he could fix it, and if not they keep all the parts in stock so could build me a new rack if required. I took my rack off and sent it off next day delivery. Two days later I got my rack back and fitted it back on the car, still running great 6 months later. They have some bad reviews online, but I had no issues with them at all and spoke to the guy at length on the phone, they seem sound. |

The second picture looks like screw in fittings to me.

Hi.
Agree with C / J . Looks very much like threaded fittings to me as well .
The small pipe unions on the rack body are ZF type and the age of the car suggest it is deffo a ZF rack - so that`s something . I`ve just trawled ebay for a threaded type rack . Nearly all the S/H racks are LHD - so no good . I did see a couple of possibles if you are thinking of buying one to have refurbed before fitting . It may be better to remove yours and have that refurbed . That way you have the comfort of knowing it will go back on the car . Just a word of warning ; someone on this forum did that but didn`t get their original back and had all sorts of problems as a result so be sure to positively identify your part . |
