Default Alloys for a 240

Hi you all around here. It's the very first time I write in this forum. I've got a '88 240GL and my wife a V40 1.8i so we're sort of volvo fans. Writing from Spain, so sorry about my english.
The question is that I'm looking for a set of alloys for my 240, but they're certainly hard to find around here. I'm asking if I could fit an original 850 set, wich is much more common and easy to find.
Any input would be appeciated...
Thanks in advance for your help.

Hey man
I have spent a lot of time researching alloy wheels for 240's and the awnser to your question is no. Now I am not saying you can't make them fit by using spacers an the like but it is not as easy as just bolting a set on. What I can tell you for shure is that wheels from 740/760 or any of the wheels for the 940 and the early shape 960's will fit strate on. The newer shape 960's have a different off set.
Hope this off some help.

First of all, thanks a lot!
Of course Steve, your answer's been a pretty good help for me. I already know that all the 740 and most of the 940 wheels could fit perfectly, but I didn't know anything about 850. This ones are much popular nowadays around here, so they are easy to get.
I'll keep looking for a nice 15' set from any of the models you told me.
Thank you again!

Glad I could help although I don't know anyone who has ever tryed to do it. If you could borrow an 850 wheel may be you could try it. I am fitting a set of the new shape 960 wheels to my 240 the stud pattern is the same but the off set is different I have over come this by using spacers. shame you don't live more local as I actually have a set of 4, 10 spoke alloys that came off an early 740 that I am thinking of getting rid of when I've made my 960 wheels fit. Oh well. Hope you can sort someting out though.

Yes Steve, I could try the 850 wheel on my 240 pretty easy. I've got a couple of close friends with 850's, and is not a problem to ask 'em for one wheel and take a look what happen. I let you know, we could also make a few pics for you.
So you have a set of 740 alloys...I guess the expenses of the shipment make it not worthy. It's a shame...
anyway, thanks again!

heres' a shot of my 240, hope it works...

Here is an Australian web page describing how to retrofit 850 series wheels on a 240. Spacers are required.

Thanks for your kind comments! Yes, I like it here - but we still went to Barcelona to celebrate my 50th birthday last January. We liked it a lot and will for certain return one day.

Cheers,

yes spacers are needed

http://forums.turbobricks.com/showthread.php?t=49018

griz has just received his set from there

every so often a good set of later alloys from 900's pop up on ebay. polaris. galaxie aurgia and such. so keep an eye out. ususally they get bought by the FWD boys who then have probs fitting them
