Default Towing with a V40 1.9TD

I have the opportunity to buy a 1998 V40 1.9 TD ( diesel ), at a good price with low mileage.

I currently tow a caravan, fully loaded at 1050kg. It has a nose weight of 75kg.

Have researched the weight ratio on various websites and all seems compatible.

Just wondered if anyone who maybe tows with a V40 could pass on their ' Pro's and Con's '.
I am particularly interested in fuel consumption, BHP , torque, etc and perhaps any problems with the V40 I should look out for or may encounter.

Thanks

Default No problem!!

I have towed a caravan with a S40 TD, i know you started this thread some time ago but i have just noticed it!!, it towed fine, the diesel is idealy suited i would say. Sorry cant give you any details of the fuel consumption etc, i just fill up and set off!, dont recall been too bad or that much different to solo, your hauling more weight but going slower, even if it uses another 20% i doubt in the scheme of things it will make a huge difference to the cost of your holiday.

Hope my comments help!

Default v40 towing

likewise, just noticed the thread -

I've just changed my v40 for a v50 - I had 2 v40's -
the last one for 6 years, it was the 1.9 d - 115 ; I towed a rib powerboat, and having had it on the weighbridge, the tow weight was 1100kg, the v40 towed it brilliantly - I've towed lots of stuff with work, boat trailers, box trailers, and behind minibuses, landrovers, cars, so have a variety to compare - the V40 was great. - but had 195000 on the clock. could quite happily tow the boat up slipways from standing start.
