Default 240 rear springs

Hi All,

Does anyone know the difference between saloon and estate rear springs?

I would guess the estate ones are stiffer or longer travel?

If they are stiffer is there a handling advantage in fitting them on saloon?

Cheers
Rich

All the 240s are renowned for saggy rear springs. The estate one are a little stiffer. I always use either a cargo or a progressive spring om all 240s whether saloon or estate. The progressive is probably the best to use if you only carry occasional loads. The cargos maintain ride height more or less come what may. They both improve handling noticeably. Matt has them on his GLT saloon and even with two full lpg tanks and sound system in the boot and three large mates on the back seat ride height is maintained. With the progressives they drop a little on intial loading then not really any more after that. They probably provide the better ride. If you want any more info let me know.

My back end is well down ! With a full tank of fuel and a boot full of shopping it looks like it's pulling a caravan ! Where does one get these progressive springs then ? (Mine's a '91 estate w/ 150K on the clock).

I stock some rear springs for 240s - mainly heavy duty and cargo springs. Have just fitted the heavy duty to my Italian GLE and its restored the correct stance. It is just slightly bouncy now but great when towing. If you are not carrying anything much weight wise I'd go for NEW normal estate springs. Why not give me a call 01407832290 - we can work out what will be best.
