Default Headlights being on all the time!

Hey everyone!

I've had my S40 since june last year and i've already had to replace low beam headlight bulbs about three or four times. never both at the same time it seems to change side every time!!

Is there any way to switch the headlights off when the switch is in the off position?

I had a look around and i couldn't find a thread on this so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers Matt

You can do 1 of 2 things here. Take it to the dealer, and have the DRL's switched off, i'm told its about £26 to have this done. Alternatively, you can turn the light switch onto sidelights when you use the car. You'll have to remember to switch them off if you don't have a "Lights On" warning buzzer thingy.

Hmm. Try some bulbs which have a longer life.

In the 3 years I've had my C30 (xenons) I've not once had to change the bulbs - oh, and the car is now nearly 5 years old and the dealers hadn't replaced any buld either - and at the same time, I always have my headlights on...

Aslo use the correct bulbs , the volvo long-life ones last about 18 months or more . The lights being on is a safety feature , make sure you tell your insurance if you turn them off !

If you chose to run with sidelights all the time, buy some bright LED bulbs for the sidelights as they last many moons compared to standard filament side lights.

How much are these long-life bulbs clan? I've changed the bulb in my O/S headlight twice in 8 months.

My C70 has a little selector thingy underneath the light switch, does this do anything drastic ?

Not sure what you mean. Is it not the little turny thing to dim the dash lights?

used to have a 2004 V40 and from memory there was a combination of switch moves with the key in position I that would switch off daylight running.
Has this been removed?

Has anyone got a recommendation for long life bulbs or are the much of the same? I currently have them off-road only bulbs from the greatest shop in the world - Halfords! - they have improved light and they look better than standard but if there blowing all the time i'll have to change!
