Default New C30 owner few questions

As title my girlfriend has recently purchased a C30 1.6 R Design (lovely car I' converted her to volvos ;-) ) just have a few issues questions

The day running light are on, I know on my V40 there's a procedure to deactivate the feature but I looked in the C30 manual and it said only a dealer can turn the feature off, is this correct??

Other issue is the manual says theirs a trip function on the indicator stalk where you use the scrowl through options miles til empty, mpg, tried it on the car and it only shows DTSC no matter how you move the scrowler the option doesn't change, am I doing something wrong? or does not every model come with all the trip info??

Thanks in advance

Welcome to the forums, Nice choice on a C30, and the R-Design kit really sets them off a treat.

Sadly you are correct and the DRLs can only be turned off by a dealer, not sure if it's worth it though, I've just learned to live with mine.

And as the computer I'm not sure as I know my SE R-Design has it, try pressing the button on the end of the stalk and see if it changes anything.

David.

All of the smal car model range from that year have the same stalk with trip function ring on them, r designs dont have the trip enabled, can be done at a dealer (software pack to enable trip comp) but its a couple hundred quid to do it.
Dayruns need software to diable them also about £35.00 i think

Main dealer should be able to tell you if it has a trip computer I'm not sure they all did.

Why do you want to switch off the DRLs? Better to be seen I would have thought with all the clowns on the roads. Save your £35 and keep them on. Dont exactly use many more lightbulbs, so leave them on. Tis a safety feature that is well documented.

It would be great if there was a switch that would turn the lights off completely too. The fact that your dipped beam is on from the second you turn the key I do not find helpful in many situation.

I've had my DRL's truned off but leave my lights at the the 'ON' position. This way I don't need to turn them on/off and they work just as if the DRL's were turned on and if I want to then I can actually turn all lights off.

If your just sitting in the car with the engine running keeping warm on a darkish wintery evening at the sea front eating your bag of fish and chips (as you do), I'd prefer that the lights were not on so I can see the moon and stars, boat lights and just be sat there in darkness - no hope with DRL's on.

What if you had a failing battery and as soon as you turn the key the last thing you want is the lights zapping the last of the power that may have well started the car?

I do see the advantages of having DRL's but I think my way you have the best of both worlds. Turn off DRL's and just leave the lights in the on position??

Of course if anyone can see any disadvantages that I've not thought of then I'm open to comments. My DRL's only cost me £7.50 to have deactivated when I last had the car in to the dealer.

I heard that the SW for turning day running lights OFF is no longer available on S40/V50/C30/C70 range you can get SW to turn them back ON though ..

Now that's just not cricket!

Does it actually need software (I mean downloaded from Sweden server)? Is it not just a check box in VIDA with DICE?

I recall reading somewhere that switching off DRLs was made illegal when they became compulsory on new cars launched after Feb or March this year. Soon enough virtually every new car will have them and disabling will be a ticketable offence as well as an MOT fail.
