from the TCG at idl;e you should have about what you are getting as you increase the revs the vac amount goes down so it could be the TCG that is faulty. i have a spare one that you can try before shelling out any more money

The Injectors appear to be Ok ?

I had to pull the vac pipe off the pump to get the car to tick over ,it just stalled otherwise .

Still to get hold of a vac gauge to test the vac system.
these values are comparable which is good. Another step would be to check the actual ECU corrections using VIDA and read error codes.

Matt,
The vac test pretty much proved that the turbo governor was faulty ,and with Mike, ( the very helpful Outnumbered) offering to send me up a spare one that he had, I decided to take mine off and strip it down to see if the rubber membrane inside was burst (like R-P,s was in his thread). It turned out that it was far worse than his ,( I will post up the pics when I get the chance ) , so hopefully it should be problem solved . It is even possible that it was this that was causing the squealing noise , should find out soon when Mike,s part arrives .
Thanks.

The latest update on this saga;

After fitting Mike,s known working governor on the car it would appear that there is no boost at all until it reaches 3000 revs (in any gear) and then you can actually feel the turbo giving a slight thump and it really takes off . You can even feel this thump when revving it when stationary. (it revs freely right up to red line when stationary but is very sluggish when driving, until it hits 3000rpm).
So basically the turbo is kicking in at 3000rpm when it should do at 1500rpm?
When I get time I will hook the vac gauge back up and see what readings I am getting now.

I think your vanes are stuck open. Does the turbo arm move at all?

The boost is gradually reduced by ECU from about 2500 RPM if I remember correctly.

You feel a bit of the power above 3000 RMP becasue that's when there's enough exhaust gasses to power the turbo shaft so you get some boost just before the it's cut out by the ECU.

Stuart check all the fuses in the engine bay fuse 11, next blank off the engine mounts.if the vanes are sticking or stuck open you would get turbo waste gate range performance issues and limp mode i think i could be wrong. from the vac pump go straight to the TCG in port from the out port which is the wider nozzle to the turbo and tap in the vac gauge, when you start up the actuator should do a full cycle, see if that happens also see if the arm moves when the car is revved.

I will do these checks as soon as I get the chance .
Here is a silly question though , and I stand to get slapped down here ;
If the vanes are sticking due to being sooted up , could you not just take off the fresh air pipe at the turbo intake and spray in loads of carb cleaner ? maybe after a few blasts it would become unstuck?
Surely couldn't be that easy though

you could try and free them of with a mitty vac that would do it short term but if they are stuck or sticking then it needs top be sorted.
