Default C70 T5 Towing ?

I was looking to buy a trailer tent but should I be pulling nearly 900Kg's with my C70 T5 ?
as :
1) Has the T5 got a lighter / weaker gearbox (Manual) than no T5 volvo's
2) C70 Cabro has a very weak chassis, would this put to much extra strain on it ?
3) Can the intercooler cope ?

Look forward to your comments.

PS Point 1 was highlighted when my Director bought a 850 T5R, towed with it and damaged the gearbox, he was later told the R versions had race gearbox's in and should never tow anything......(his was an auto though)

Hi ...I have a C70 but have never towed with it...I always used 740`s and currently my 940......had a nightmare getting a resonable tow bar for the C70 and got ripped off for £240....

What type of trailer tent is that??? 900kg seems very heavy...almost small caravan size...would be interesting to know???

The T5 manual gearbox is just the same as any other manual .

The R version has just the same auto box as any other engine BUT the engine torque and power are reduced a small amount to prolong the life of the Auto box .

The C70 T5 convertible weighs 1565 kg , volvos recommended towing load at the 85% limit is 1360kg and the max towing load is 1600kg so no problem whatsoever .

I'm curious why you think a C70 cabrio has a weak chassis? When the hardtop is converted to a softtop, the chassis remains the same. The structural alterations are made in the upper bodywork.

the chassis isnt weak its stronger than the C 70 coupe , read above , volvos figures make it completely normal to tow with it .. If you think about it all the towing forces are directed in a straight line at wheel centre line so no bending loads on the top part of the body .
