AC off and air recirculation orange lights flash for 20 seconds every time car is started. What could cause this? System seems to operate normally.

It means there is a fault in the climate unit I'm afraid.

From the handbook:

"The lights flash for 20 seconds when a fault occurs. If this fault still exists the next time you start the car the lights will flash for 20 seconds again. Contact your Volvo dealer."

Most of the 850 models you can read/reset the codes yourself (and repair the problem). If you post model/year I will try and help.

EEC showing 20 second flashing lights on start up. Dealer says needs new internal temperature sensor which fitted would cost £140 and could be affecting the trip computer, although I haven't noticed anything. If I just buy the part can I fit this easily myself and get rid of the flashing orange lights? Or are there any other solutions? Unit is currently pumping air out at a rather low unchangeable temperature.

Dealer has just advised "Possible fault with coolant temp sensor - causing A/C lights to flash"
Is this a DIY job or is it back to the dealer ?
'97 V70 2.0 10v.
