With plenty of these cars about on the board I was wondering whether I could get an idea of what people get to a UK gallon of petrol.

I run 95 octane - normally Shell, BP or Agip (I am in Switzerland) and get 26-28mpg mixed driving, but have seen 33mpg at a constant 75-80mph.

I guess it is not helped by a slow puncture on the read left and a slower puncture on the front right.

i'd say thats about right - i would normally get 32-38mpg in a 360 which has the same engine, but in a smaller, ligher and (at a guess) more aerodynamic car..

I have that engine in my 240. I get a bit better than that - 32 is a good all-round average, but I did achieve 35-36 on a long steady run at about 65/70.
26/28 is what I used to get with my old B21 carburettor model.
But then Switzerland's quite hilly?!

Razor sharp observation!!

I also tend to have the habit of actually getting her to bounce off the rev limiter now and again - it is quite nice to feel her pick up her skirt for the 1500rpm (4500 to 6000) where acceleration occurs at a semi-rapid rate.

Maybe I will get round to buying one of those new fangled 940 Turbos and having her remapped to 220PS. Not sure I could live without slider controls for the heater though ;-)
