Think about it 300 is probably equivalent to one per dealer.

Allowing for those who leave for pastures new or retire will it be an increase?

They are going to need them for the increase in cars being recovered back to the dealer because of charging and stop/start faults.

Horse bolted stable door comes to mind,

But this is true of most garages, not just dealers

The experience just isn't there anymore and its only getting worse

Negativity aside, I think Volvo must be commended for their turnaround in performance over the last few years so they're going to need this bump in technician numbers.

2 to 3 per dealer , which means 2 to 3 new service bays which will be kept active , 3 more loan cars and another receptionist , maybe a new parts person too .. Unless you are a huge place you are not going to be able to comply ..
Yes people come and go , but Technicians are 10 a penny ( so we are told ) so no problem !

maybe its to cover redundancies of the technicians too dumb to learn (they exist I have trained a few dumb people in my time) about electric motor hybrid technologies and also retirements etc they have probably not been keeping staff levels up due to the "ression"*

(*you know the one where the country is broke but it the fastest growing economy and can always finds money to give away abroad while at the same time cutting services and funding for the people in the UK.)

I suspect all dealerships no matter the brand will be investing in new techs in the coming years. The old school guys are good at what they do, but hybrid and fully electric technology requires a lot of investment and training. Something that dealers would perhaps only buy into if they're going to get maximum return. As an aside, I found it quite gratifying when Volvo tried to recruit me two years ago as a tech. The proposition sounded enjoyable, but the financial renumeration even for a master tech was somewhat uninspiring.

Last year (if I remember when correctly) Volvo said that it was to introduce servicing/repairs with Technicians working in pairs to speed up work, allowing quick 'servicing while you wait' at dealers.
Wonder if it's anything to do with this?

No , it is due to the continuing rapid growth of the volvo brand , the graph has been rising continuously for the last 4 years and the present staff levels are finding it hard to cope . smaller dealers are going to have to get new premises or close eventually .
