A long thin screwdriver can help you get things to line up but if the clips, nylon or metal, are missing you have nothing to screw them into. The clips are on the door inner frame not the door card. If the armrest pulls the card away from the door the screws aren't attaching it to the frame. Take a door card off and explore. As Chris said, the metal inserts in the arm can come adrift, which doesn't help!
