Sent the old girl in for a bit of love this morning, picking it up tomorrow and we'll see how she feels!

New parts list:
TTR lite flywheel
850R clutch conversion
Clutch fork
Rear main oil seal
New gearbox oil
Gearbox mount
Prop shaft bearing

Lesjofors lowering springs
Bilstein B4s all round
All new front bushes (rubber not PU, spaceships, control arms etc)
Drop links
Tie rods
Tie rod ends
Ball joints
Front bearings / hubs
Splash plates.

Front tyres

Think that's everything! Ita a mixture of long put off jobs, MOT advisories and fun. She's not seen much love over the last few years and have a 1500 mile holiday planned.

We'll see how she drives tomorrow with luck!

Sweet!! Which garage you getting to do it? Be well interested if it cures the front wheel in the arch positioning that both our cars have! Are you considering doing the panhard bar mod to keep it all straight?

D&A Autos in Witney. They are just about the only place I trust to do this sort of thing, took it with a pinch of salt that I was doing the 850R conversion and lowering it. Had about 5 940s there when I dropped mine off this morning.

I haven't looked into panhard mods or anything of the sort yet to do with the rear. I'll probably get as used to it first and then look at the rear in a few months. Also I totally forgot to take a "before" shot of my front wheels to put in your thread but whilst they weren't nearly as off centre as yours are - it was noticeable. I will report back and oh - I accidentally bought 4x drop links (2 sets of 2 links - doh!) so you're welcome to them at cost + postage if you end up needing to do similar things.

Nope, it really did only take 2 days to do it all!

I was holding off to give it a few days before I delivered my verdict.

So, handling is much, much improved, a lot of the body roll is gone now and a huge amount of the slop is just simply gone from the experience. The ride is a little harder as you'd expect from the stiffer, lower springs but it is no where near as harsh as modern cars with thin tyres can be. Alignment went well and apparently tied up fine with the back end despite the stock panhard rod still being fitted. It's not really lowered that much - which is fine by me, I'm not after a boy racer look. Top of the tyres (195/65R15) are about 20mm from underside of wheel arch. I feel much more confident at flinging her into corners at 50mph now!

The clutch conversion feels much lighter at the pedal. I had a look at the old DMF and surprisingly it wasn't too ruined, although I could move the two sides a bit by hand. Main problems were that my pivot point had worn a flat into one side and the release bearing had separated meaning it was pushing off centre onto the clutch plate... She obviously revs a lot more easily with 10+Kgs removed from the back of the engine. It certainly feels a little different to drive but generally I would say it's more confident.

Negative points then, there is a lot of noise coming from the gearbox area. Hard to diagnose exactly what it is. A sort of rattling noise when under load, or in overrun. When stopped with the engine idle the noise comes and goes with the clutch put your foot on the clutch and the noise goes, returns when you release it. I'm not sure whether this is due to the single mass flywheel or something else. Cost is also going to be prohibitive, I paid £580 in labour and couple of parts inc VAT, I was charged 8 hours labour. I then paid for all the other parts as well of course.

I'd recommend it as a set of mods as it was all pretty straight forward, bolt on stuff and it definitely does make it feel like a newer car to drive.

Any other questions let me know or if you've got any light to shed on the rattle - I'd appreciate it.

Cheers,
James

Sounds suspiciously like the layshaft bearings to me or possibly the input shaft bearings, both are in the gearbox. Did they put the oil back in the gearbox after removing the box for the clutch?
