I've now applied the first coat of primer, will get the other coat on later this afternoon. It already looks better, no visible rust on the outside now (although I know there is more rust along the bottom of the car which I might sort out later in the year if I'm with the car for a week or so).

Did the topcoat yesterday , I know it's not perfect but I think it looks alright at a distance, you can no longer see any visible rust unless you look underneath the car.
About to give it 2 coats of clear lacquer now, then waxoyl tomorrow.
