I gave the Spotify app a go today, after reading on here that it's laggy and unresponsive I was actually really pleasantly surprised. I did not experience any of these things - music played instantly when you tap on the track and navigating between playlists was really responsive. A really nice user experience and better than Car Play's version.

One thing that did stump me at first was I normally log in via Facebook and it didn't recognise my username and password. If you log on to Spotify on a desktop it gives you a user ID for 'Spotify Devices' which is what you have to use.

Also, standard stereo (Not B&W, No Sub) - is MORE than adequate. Set the quality in the app to "Extreme" and it really does sound well balanced with enough kick when you crank it up.

How much data is it chewing through? Someone here said it was chewing data? If it's only hundreds of Mb per hour then that's fine.

Interesting to hear your experience. How did you find startup time and what kind of internet connection did you have? Also, were you stationary or on the move?

My experience was not at all like this but that was with the inbuilt modem. Maybe worth a try using hotspot. Or maybe Volvo have done something with the lag through their server. The other thing for me was you cannot download songs so it is always streaming and using data even when you replay any tracks.
Do you have the new 4G modem being fitted.

I'm just uploading a video as we speak, but I was stationary on my driveway using the onboard modem with a PAYG '3' SIM in the boot... Will post the link when it's live (as long as it doesn't hit copyright infringement for playing music!)

Regarding data, I used to use 5Gb a month using a mobile hotspot. Last month I used 9.4Gb, with the only difference being I'm now using Spotify and Apple Music through the car's hotspot.

I've used the online music for most journys, and have covered 1,100 miles in a month, so reckon on 4Mb music / mile. I'm not sure if that metric is of any use or interest to anyone, but me !

Video below if of any interest to anyone. 9mb for a music file, but I have that set to extreme. I would guess 6mb per song at medium quality and 3mb on low.

Thanks for the video. Pretty sure your Spotify started up a fare bit quicker than mine does. The speed at which it indexed lists and populated cover art, and the speed at which content started playing looked quite a bit snappier.

Will have to give mine another try.

When was your car built, does it have the 4G modem?

Arrived at the dealership mid-late Feb. Not sure of the exact build week but I would imagine mid-late Jan? I guess it's 4G if that's what they use now?

I haven't yet tried when tethered to my phone I've only used the in build modem. I would imagine performance drops off with variations in coverage too.
