Well, next hurdle is French MOT and then re-reging. That's gonna sting a little as its 16 CV puissance Fiscale . Even tho' it 1/2'd for cars over 10yrs, it'll still burn my pocket a little. And knowing me I'll keep it 'stock'

I (or someone) should have mentioned this before, but cleaning the contacts on the antenna ring is usually (or at least often) all that is needed. Hope it's fixed now any rate - well done!

The 'syndrome' continued. So:

A Volvo part via PFV.
Only fitted on Monday, so early days.
So far so good, fingers crossed.

^^^^ That sometimes worked with mine, tho' not always. It may just be yours is in the 'early stages' of failing.
According to the chaps at Volsaa in Derby, once the ring fails completely that's it no starting......
Just to update, since fitting mine I think it was 30/08, it's started 'on the button' every time
Thanks.

Good to know.. one for a future job unless it gets worse.

Of note, I recall probably being the only thing that ever failed on my 02 S60 was the same thing... Left me stranded at a supermarket... Recovered to Volvo and £135 later sorted!

Thanks for the update and posts...

OK this may sound obvious but make sure to check your battery and connections. I have had this problem for a few weeks and kept resetting the immobiliser by disconnecting and reconnecting the battery which seemed to work and it would start. I even changed the antenna ring which did not improve the situation. On a recent cold morning I noticed the cranking was pretty poor and began to suspect the battery had reached the end of its life - popped a replacement in and the problem of intermittent triggering of the immobiliser seems to have vanished - I think it is pretty sensitive to a low voltage. Anyway worth checking out if you are having problems before going into the more complex stuff. Good luck.

Paul

When I had this a couple of years ago on the 850 T5 I got the same immobiliser code and was told to ignore it,

VOL FCR recorded a cam position sensor code ( 314 rings a bell ) so replaced. Made no difference.

But replacing the diz ( not sure if yours coils it not ) rotor, plugs and plug leads has resulted in a first time start every time since. Still do not know why but when she was playing up I took a plug out, earthed it on the block, replaced plug and she would start every time.

Disappointed never to find the fault but made up with the end result, £100 spend and many hours aresing about in the cold !

I have struggled with the "starts then stops" syndrome which is definitely an immobiliser issue. The connection between the antenna ring and the wiring connector is the problem in my case. Buying a new antenna ring did not permanently cure the problem, but the following seems to have done.

Disconnect the antenna ring wiring connector and then cut four pieces of old fashioned 5 amp fuse wire about 1" long. Bend each one into a U and insert each end into each pair (top and bottom) of the outer holes in the 10 way female plastic connector making sure the fuse wire is fully into the connector and not leaving a loop which could short on the other pins. The antenna ring has 4 male pins so the central pair of holes do not need plugging in the way I describe. The problem is that the pins are too small for the female connectors in the plastic connector block, it may be that they are ok when new, but mine were too loose a fit for a reliable connection. This may sound a crude method, but it worked for me. You will need plenty of light to see what you're doing.

Thanks . It does so far seem to be sorted...... Looks for wood!
I'm away from home right now & have been since mid-October. T5 is at home (along with the ph2 V70SE).
Daughter looking after the place. She flashed both cars up on Monday & reported that T5 started 'on the button ' ( ph2 did too).
I'm hoping this one is sorted..........
