Here is a video of the car running and a clip of the little RPM needle twitches (they were a lot more visible before I took my phone out).

https://youtu.be/PFf2Es5q-N8

If anything seems odd about how it's running, please let me know.

Seems very like the MAF/AMM at fault then. That's the second one i've know where the CPS and AMM/MAF have gone belly-up at the same time. Probably just age of the car i suppose.

If you find the ten digit Bosch part number on your current one and type it into ebay, you should find some new ones at sensible prices.

Turns out the MAF was changed 28k km ago, though the service book says it was for a used one so don't know how much it had been used. I will look into getting a new one.

Is it a normal thing to be unable to reset the codes if the error is constant? And if it's an issue with the MAF, shouldn't it start to choke on acceleration?

its most unusual to not be able to reset codes. Can you describe how you are trying to do this?

After holding down the button for a couple of seconds, the light should come back on after release shouldn't it? I hold it down and after that nothing happens, I do the exact same thing as on the other port where it works.

Just went for another drive, car didn't shut off this time but the fuel consumption was noticeably higher than normal and there is a knocking sound when the revs are higher than 2k.

It's hard to describe the knocking, all I can say is that it's very faint. My father can't even hear it while I can.
