WHAT - a bronze Maestro! How obscene - my late father's one which we inherited (no - I mean disposed of: even my son wouldn't have it for free) was dark blue. Never saw a bronze one - and luckily won't now!

Many moons ago i was reading one of those car buying price guide books - a bit similar to Parkers but i don't think it was Parkers.

Anyhow they listed the Pros, Cons and Sum-Up of different cars. From memory this is what they put for the Maestro :

Pros : Austin for the 80s & 90s
Cons : the 70s age group will like it too.

Can't remember the Sum-Up but it was equally scathing!

Crikey, I was working for Wadham Stringer in Reigate when the Maestro was launched*...how old am I ?

Now what was the name of the Volvo dealer in Reigate ?

Jon - how about Abbey Volvo, in Lesbourne Road? At least, it was in 1985 when I bought my Amazon estate from them there.
Since then Mr Abbey died and the firm moved to the Holmthorpe Industrial Estate in Redhill, and is now I believe a Citroen agent (something French anyway).
Did you know a Barry Simmons there - a retired friend who I think worked there: he certainly was a Volvo engineer around that time.

The dealer I remember was in Lesbourne Road but another name...I used to go to Reigate in the 1970s with my Dad, then had a friend in Sidlow. I do remember when it was Abbey though (not Barry). Had a girlfriend at - what was then - Reigate School of Art...wow, those art school parties !!!

Just remembered, obvious really: Lesbourne Garages - Reigate was quite upmarket in those days !
