Probably because I don't understand 'design' as applied to form rather than function.
When I got my first Volvo I thought that was a lovely bit of design. By my third Volvo with the floating console I just thought it was a waste of space. Things I put there I forgot, I also had to contort my hand to pick things up from it.

Unfortunately it seems the earlier P1 cars need the option turning on in VIDA.

Wonder how much that'll cost me...

Shouldn't be much from a fellow Volvo'er with Vida.

I would do it but am miles away from you unfortunately. However I am in Halifax for a night/day in September.

It's Swedish design for you, no excuse needed. My only gripe is when on long distance drives I tend to lean my left leg against it and it gets uncomfortable after a while. I found it worse on the V40's especially the R Designs which seem to have a sharper edge. Apart from that, I like it.

I lean forward and reach round the console, but then I only keep a small MF cloth there.

I tried that briefly but then found that because you can't actually see behind it that I kept putting my fingers on the lenses as I went to pick them up. In the end it just remained empty.

I've had my V50 for nearly four years, and it's only thanks to this thread that I've discovered the pockets in the front seat squabs and the open/close windows function of the remote.
My wife has, in the past, called me sad for looking visiting this forum. She must now apologise and recognise how useful it is.

And this is why the VOC is such a wonderful forum
