Default HELP ! S80 won't shift out of Park

Hi

Car: 2004 S80 T6

Earlier I had some difficultly getting it out of park, and started it over 4 odd times before I took it around the block then parked up.

This ran my battery out, then I couldn't jump start until I realised I was had the negative earthed incorrectly.

Anyway once jump started the car drove fine, I took it for a 10 mile run, parked on my drive, went to select R' to reverse and straighten up and nothing.

It's seems locked in Park.

I was wondering: the brake lights don't seem to function with it in Park - then again I'm not sure if it didn't to begin with ??

Please help !!

Thanks

An hour later, I jumped in and the car will not start - makes the clicky noise like when you have a dead battery. Battery tester reports 11.8v which obviously not enough but I have then tried jump starting the S80 from the rear direct to the battery and at the front with the appropriate jump point to no avail.

Please help !!

Thanks
The same car as my own Dickybow! Could it be the alternator?

£0 - I called the AA to fix it.

In 20mins he relubed and repositioned the sensor, and lubed the auto shifter.

He recommended I replace the sensor soon - £24 on order from Volvo.

I can't express how relieved I am !

My Sympathies!
I did exactly the same thing when working under the dash on the S80, dislodged the brake light switch.
Had me really scratching my bonce until I had figured out what I had done.
As you say, much relief!

the thing that 'locks' the gear stick in park is a solenoid - you can see it all if you move the panel a the base of the stick. My (on a previous S80) went faulty and I had to replace - as a temp measure you can remove.
