Default V70 Wipers - Intermittent Fault

We are suffering from an intermittent fault on the front and occasionally the rear wipers on our '56 V70 estate. They operate normally and then stop for no apparent reason. They then will start operating when they decide to. We have been to the main dealer twice, the last time earlier today, but all that seems to be on offer is a complete strip down and a chage of controller at ££expensive. Has anyone else had a similar problem and what was the diagnosis?
Thanks

i would hazard a guess and it could be a faulty stalk if it is affecting both front and rear wipers.im presuming the switch for the rear wipers is on the same stalk.

I am having the same on my 03 V70, When on intermittent they work when put on and then stop. When twist the knob for speed intervals they work again once and then stop again until the speed dial is turned so that they are on constantly.

The garage is baffled as am I.

Now the rear wipers have stopped altogether.

The wipers on my V70 would occasionally fail to come on when the stalk would be moved to intermittant or continuous. Pulling/pushing to activate the windscreen washers would solve the problem. This indicates to me that it is the stalk switch needing cleaning by abrasion.

this is very common problem in Trucks, is the stalk, I can promise anything but I drive volvo FH12 and I had 2 replace within 2 years, also they did blow the fuse everytime, what I would if you can find one cheap or borrow of someone fit one on and see if it works they you know what you looking for
