In my opinion the make of the tyre is a much bigger factor than the make/model of the car! Sounds like another misinformed media remark to me.
We run with Pirelli P6000s on ours, and have no real complaints, but i couldn't quote a mileage achieved, as I find that a bit 'anorak'.

I think driving style is the most important factor here. Driven carefully 12-15K is possible but we mustn't forget that front wheel drive of a medium to large high powered car is always going to result in high tyre wear on the front and the rears going rotten before they wear out. Large BMW's or Mercs don't have this problem.

I will be very disappointed if the Volvo isn't somewhere close to this ...
get real mate what big heavy powerfull(ish) front wheel drive cars front tyres last 55k? anyway one compensation is the volvo shouldnt fall apart on you like those crappy freelanders seem to be fond of doing

In my experience, if tyre life is an over-riding priority, Michelins last a lot longer. Though other brands may offer more grip, Michelins run quietly, comfortably and grip is almost up with the very stickiest.

And Michelins are even better value for money bought and fitted at COSTCO.

If checking that your £130 a piece tyres are lasting as long as they should is being an arorak, then count me in.

I have Continental Sport on an S80 D5. 20500 miles with 4.0 ml still on front and 7.0 on rear. I will be staying with this brand when I have to replace them.

Just had the first service after 18,000 miles and the tread remaining is 5.54 front left, 3.55 front right, 5,75 rear after approx 75% motorway driving and I don't hang about. The tyres are Continental Sports.
Hope this helps.
