Yes if they're chipped, no if they're standard. AFAIK the Police never chip their cars, they have enough trouble with them in standard tune

It's possible, if your starting off with a 2.5 T5 V70 with 225bhp as standard, it's not going to be too much of a challenge. Plus if it's ex police it most likely won't have a top end limiter.

225bhp was the output of the original T5 engined 850.

The V70's had 240bhp in the initial models, then 250bhp and in the late model P2's car 260bhp as standard. The 2005 on cars actually have the R models intake system and KKK turbo and easily break the 300bhp figure with a remap.

Police spec cars did usually have their limiter deleted, although it was fairly pointless as the extra drag from lightbars and the extra weight of all the kit carried meant they struggled to get over 150mph. Additionally, the adaptive elements of the Volvo map were sometimes 'locked' to maximise performance, but that was it.

There is a trade seller of ex police T5s on ebay who has been consistantly advertising P2 V70 T5s as 300bhp for at least the past six months , I dont know for certain but I am reasonably sure they are standard 250bhp cars he is making this claim for , this sort of advertising makes me angry .

I would always ask any seller claiming a car has more power than standard to provide documentary evidence of what has been done to the car.

Milage needant be a barrier to tuning a T5, I had mine remapped at well over 150k miles and it was absolutely fine. A compression test and a good stage zero tune would be worth doing to make sure everything is as it should be.

The 1st generation did have 250bhp (2000 and older) The 2nd generation (2000-2007) had 208bhp with the 2.5L engine and the low pressure turbo or had or 257bhp with the 2.4L and high pressure turbo - for the 'T5' models. There were quite a few variants of 'R' series models which vary in power 300bhp and thereabouts. However the police don't use the 'R' series models.

It's done 172,000, it should be okay for tuning. Provided it'd been properly maintained, which it will have being an ex service car so you have nothing to worry about. Get in touch with your local fleet manager and ask for a written copy of the service history for your records, then you can see whats been done and when.
