V90 Data only SIM for Modem
My 2017 V90 CC has the Modem located in the boot, but pre-dated the inclusive Data SIM fitted as standard to recent cars. From previous experience, I am aware that not all Data only SIM providers are compatible with this vehicle. Can anyone recommend say a 5GB, low cost provider please?

Does anyone have any idea how the sim will perform, is it limited to 3G because of the actual modem, can you effectively replace your phone and dial/receive calls through the sensus without an actual phone?
How does it compare to hotspotting your phone vs the sim? |

You will be limited to the in car modem 3g but the 3 data Sim works very well with good coverage, it is a data only Sim and you still need your phone to make calls and texts via bluetooth. I have not noticed any difference between using my phone data and the 3 data.
If you buy a 3 data Sim make sure you buy the data only Sim as they also have a data calls and text Sim but that only lasts 30 days and for in phone use rather than car modem.

Tethering won't get the 'Over The Air' updates. Using an onboard sim makes it all happen in background and you only notice at the end of the update as Sensus slows for a few seconds.

I've no problem getting OTA updates tethered to a 4g EE USB dongle plugged into the cargo socket.

I get OTA Map updates tethered to my mobile. If they are larger than a certain size, you can't get them OTA and have to download them anyways. (If I remember correctly). |
