We tend to be a bit staid and conservative in the Volvo 200 corner; I was quite looking forward to seeing how asymmetric banded steel wheels and stretched tyres would have worked out.

Good fortune,

Hello mate - yes I’m selling them because an opportunity to buy some oceans came up with tyres for not much more than the steelies

I’ve been busy and not made as much progress on getting the 240 into its rubber

Update:

Rear ended done bar using the adjustable pan hard to align the wheels

Worked on the fronts a few weeks ago….

Bushes, drop links and track rod ends!

My word. Will you be fitting some under-car lighting and some spinners for the wheels?

I’m just joking, you are doing a very good job.

:-) Alan

PS. If you bought those wheels and tyres for not much more than £50 you did very well indeed.

I’m guessing the threads have stripped in the two holes at the back of the hubs? I can’t remember for sure, but I think they may be blind holes, M12 I think. Helicoils should work, as long as you use a plug tap. If there is a problem you could drill the holes (calliper and hub) out one size larger, tap and fit some bigger bolts. Whilst that would work I think helicoils would be better.

PS. I found some photos; these mounting bolts?

It looks like they aren't blind holes after all:

... which is good news, it is much easier to tap them and to snap off the end of the helicoils.

So what is the problem?

Well they are semi blind - there is a bit of material which I assume is to stop an incorrect length bolt being used and fouling the disc?

Well because this is the case, my first drill and tap only went to a certain depth and wasn’t fully tapped (tap in the kit is one where the tap isn’t full for the first 1/4”

This meant that all though my Helicoil went it, it was too tight for the bolt

I removed the blind foul and tapped fully again and this time things went together better

I also cleaned up the bolts with a matching M12 1.75 die

Getting there now

I also had to replace the passenger side calliper as 1 of the 4 pistons had seized

Make sure you pick a colour that won't clash with the undercar lighting :-).
