VVT rattle
Hi there
I am on my third S40 classic and had to change the VVT pulley on the last two There is a small gauze filter in the gasket under the VVT solenoid which must be changed when you change the VVT pulley The main reason the VVT fails is due to lack of oil changes, the sludge in the oil blocks the gauze filter and the very small oil galleries in the VVT pulley, you may wish to try changing the VVT solenoid gasket for a new one and drain the oil, put in an engine flush, let the car idle for at least an hour then drain the flush and put in new oil This may clean out the VVT galleries and save you having to change the VVT pulley again however if this does not work, I would repeat the engine flush again before changing the VVT pulley to ensure all the sludge has been flushed out Hope this helps |
