Default V60 radiator DIY

Turned out to be a bigger job than I thought, but still possible as a DIY job.

Basically my 2012 V60 D3 developed a leak and I managed to find a pattern rad from a radiator specialist for only £50. Fitting was a case of removing the bumper to give better access and removing the radiator mounting plate, then splitting the intercooler & condenser rad. The radiator then can be removed from above, although it does look like it's supposed to come out from underneath the car.

This just shows how much cr@p the rads pick up.

The offending area was consistent with where water was gathering in the front bumper.

The pattern rad. Really impressed with the quality and fit considering it only costs £50.

I've noticed the engine bay on my current S60 gets a lot dirtier than the previous model. Your findings on striping one down confirms this.

Good thread !

Hi there,
I have an XC60 that has developed a small leak in the radiator. Don't notice it day to day, but it drank about 300ml of coolant on a 700 mile journey in the summer when we did 80mph consistently with bikes on the roof in 30 degree heat
Would you suggest I have a go at changing it myself?
I am a competent DIYer, but am no car mechanic. I have changed wiper motors and power sounders etc on other cars, but this would be the biggest job I have tackled.
I trust the Volvo garage I use but if I get them to do it it is going to cost me much much more than the £50 your new rad cost!
Thanks in advance for any responses.

If you're confident in removing the front bumper to have a look then give it a go. Worst case is that you give up and put it back together, leaving you to convince a local garage to fit a rad that you supplied.

HI
How long take you to replace rad and put everything back?
I think to do myself
