Independent garage for core plug fix

Hello all,

I'm looking for recommendations for independent garages that can do the core plug/rear crank seal fix on my XC90. I've been in touch with a few local (Coventry) to me but have yet to hear back. One of them has declined due to lack of Volvo equipment.

Would appreciate your advice.

Hi. If you want to travel,I can recommend Kings in Westbury Wiltshire. About 2 hours from Coventry though. They did the both core plug and crank seal l on our XC70. I have used them for about 10 years and they are well thought of locally. Derek.

Local indy in South Derbyshire called Hallam and Suthern - in Swadlincote. About an hour from Coventry. Well thought of locally.

Based on what I've read on here, I have to agree. The garage I contacted has probably never done the job before, citing the need for the Volvo engine hoist/frame/support/something to get the job done.

All good, as it would be more preferable to direct this issue to a garage that has done it before.

CP motors only polesworth are a Volvo specialist I’ve used them a few times and they were very knowledgable, would guess they have done a core plug before.

Core plug fix done by Hallam & Sutherns in Swadlincote. Very pleasant experience, can't recommend them enough. Got a courtesy S80 D5 as well which was much appreciated.

Prices go from around £700 + VAT but will probably end up being nearer to £1000 + VAT once other things are included (e.g. seized bolts, coolant top-up, oil change, etc.).

Hi, my engine replacement (excluding engine) was £1000 inc.

At same time replaced all engine mounts and besides already listed, remember Aircon regas,. My old turbo had wear in the bearings do replaced that too.

The also found ( which I think is common) that the nearside front sub frame bolt had seized and had to be drilled out. I understand that this is common as the end of the captive nut is exposed to the elements. It might be a good idea to start spraying this with penetrating oil now as could assist with removal. You can see the end of the captive nut onset the bonnet.

My work was carried out by the Volvo workshop at wickford Essex. Probably a bit remote for you,
