And you have now done illegal modifications to your car, making it an instant MOT fail

EGR delete is illegal (well it always was) and is now an instant MOT fail in the UK

i have had my 2014 xc60 2.4 d4 approx 60.000 miles now, touch wood no problems with it,but reading between the lines will my valve etc mess up on me ?
the car was purchased from a Honda dealer, but was serviced, belts etc,and has the previous owners Volvo history with it.
will Volvo replace the parts before they screw up ? also who pays for it ?
thanks for looking.
EGR Cooler problems only really affect the D4 VEA engines.

Not sure what the engine code is, but the 2.4 d4 is the 'old' 5 cylinder engine. A really good engine by the way. The VEA designation merely refers to the new generation of 4 cylinder engines, (Volvo Engine Architechture). These have started to throw up check engine warnings requiring EGR, hoses and cooler mods.

Not saying you will never have EGR problems but they are not as common as on the newer engines, and will not require the same fix.

Just to give a bit of balance to the thread. Have clocked 90k on a XC60 2014 VEA 181hp auto and apart from the free Volvo EGR fix at about 30k I have not had a single issue. Compared to my BMW 2.5 Series 5 which was a catalogue of disasters, I have nothing but praise for this Volvo. And as for comfort it's no gimmick that a Swedish Cinema is furnished with Volvo seats!

Unfortunately my experience is the opposite.

My last car was a BMW 320d for 5 years which only went in to BMW for 2 services in that time.

In contrast, my Volvo in 4 years has had 4 services, 4 EGR fixes, a replacement engine, headlights which drop to 2 feet of illumination when braking or decelerating and today the stop, low coolant message has appeared. And it's still only done 30k miles, being only used for long runs as I'm too worried to use it for short journeys.

I've had everything from Hillman Avengers, Vauxhall's, Renaults and Peugeot's and never had one like it.

The increased NOx emissions are a bad thing, however I'm wondering how many other VEA owners might have to take a similar action over the next few years?

Did the remap give a lot more power? It would be useful if you could post a link please?
I had a remap which gave a mixture of performance and economy. The car picks up much more smoothly now and pulls better but it’s still very nice to drive. I could have had the vehicle tested on a rolling road with a full printout of the power increase but that was an extra £80 and my main aim was to permanently sort out the egr cooler problem. I am a low mileage driver so perhaps buying a diesel wasn’t a good move but I haven’t had any problems with previous diesels I have owned.
