Default diagnostic and maintenance

Hi guys,
Hope someone can help ? I am a competent diy'er, who doesn't want to pay a garage for simple jobs (filters etc) and discs/ pads etc. I need a diagnostic tool that will wind back the motors on an electric parking brake, on an xc 60. If it identifies easily rectified faults, fine, but if it seems complex, I
would go to a garage. I know Vida is the best, from reading posts and feedback
but I only look after my own car, so cannot justify the cost. Any thoughts, experiences appreciated, thanks/in advance.

To change rear pads on electric handbrake XC60 watch the you tube video. No Vida plug in needed just a 9v small battery alledgadly, not the same as the newer Audi models that do need a computer plug in too release and change pads

Hi yes,
I ve seen them. Have you actually used this method ? It seems a bit too easy, its what they dont show you on YT .But im grateful for any help. I wouldn't mind, say, throwing £100 at a scanner, it would also give me fault codes and other functions. I just dont want to spend hundreds on a complex set up I wouldn't use. Thanks

I have an Autel 319. Basic but allows you to read and erase codes and show live data when the vehicle is running. About £30.

If you buy genuine Volvo rear pads they come with instructions on how to wind them back manually. Basically you take the motor off and turn it back using a Torx socket.

Winding back the EPB motors with a PP3 battery is incredibly simple. I followed this forum guide, which initially describes removal of the motor but then goes on to also suggest the use of a battery. I preferred the battery approach as removal of the motor then requires some o-rings to be replaced, plus you might need to buy some large Torx bits? I added a few comments on polarity and how I actually carried out the task... https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=206272

For diagnostics I use a cheap ELM327 Bluetooth adaptor (about a fiver on eBay) in conjunction with the free 'Car Scanner' app on my Android tablet. This will read and delete engine/powertrain codes and read a lot of sensor values... I can access the engine oil level sensor value (in mm) and the DPF soot loading (in g).

I used Brembo discs as well. They came with painted hubs and 18 months later they still look like new.
