£1,020.00 with nearly two day's to go and he's going to accept £1,100.00 for it? yeah right, why would he do that...it's the last few minutes when bidders have a mad flurry...or nine times out of ten.

Greed all too often creeps in...we all like to get the most we can, but should ideally have a minimum price we would take, cash is king...a bird in the hand and all that...

As Clint once said..."never &*ss up my back and tell me it's raining" Lol

I have definitely seen this before, recognize the reg.

£1500 sounds way too strong for my constitution.

Interesting what SE said about handling of the Sports. I really didn't know they were that much better. Has anyone else found them that good?

Cheers,

T

Yes my recently acquired Black one handles very well indeed, don't forget they have been dropped by an Inch, plus uprated suspension too, and a rear Anti roll bar, plus the thicker front one which 93 on Turbo's had anyway.

Sthrow in some bigger (wheels 16x7 ) so 205 rubber on some Volvo alloys that actually filled the arches thus giving a slightly wider track.

My Silver car has very tired Nivo's on it, but the scruffy black one has good suspension so show me how good they should be.

I was reading an article recently on line whilst researching self levelling suspension and found an article by some of our American cousins where they decide to test self levelling, having heard bad things about it (much as I have).

They tested two big pick up trucks, one with and one with out self level rear shocks and loaded them up with some serious weight, oil drums from memory and set off on a quiet piece of highway, and to test it they decided to make a swift lane change.

The truck with standard suspension almost lost control to the point it scared the test driver, whilst the Nivomat type reacted like a truck with almost no weight on board.

Their findings were a no brainer winner. I must admit the knackered shocks on my silver car still do their job although the take a while to level themselves, but I did have a 220lb subwoofer 3x2x2 feet on board a while back and it was positioned at the very back of the car..the tailgate only just shut, so placing this very heavy lump as far back behind the rear wheels as possible.

I can honestly say I could 'not' tell it was on board.

Food for thought, and no mistake.

I've not really looked into it, but keep wondering how much of the SE type setup can be transferred to the 960. Not looked under a 940 at th efront, but I imagine there's not much difference? Obviously the 960 has the indy rear, but they have nivomats - poss interchangeable with the (upgraded?) ones from the SE?

Course, it's probaby not of interest to hardcore 940 SE guys, but the 960 chassis is definitely out of its depths with the power of the 3 litre six, and would go a lot quicker if it really handled.

Cheers,

T

You need the "weak" springs to make the nivos work. The mk2 IRS in the 960 uses a transverse leaf spring, so you'd need a correspodning "weak" design. I don't know if the shocks are interchangeable (fitment-wise), but I suspect not. I'm also not sure if all 960s had nivos, but again I suspect not.

FWIW, I've always considered the 960 setup to be superior to the 940 (especially the rear...live vs IRS)...BUT...it's harder to 'play with' the mk2 IRS in the later 960s. Early ones with coil springs ought, in theory, to outclass the live axle setup in the 940 when played with. There are upgrade kits for the mk2 IRS, but they're expensive...you're at the mercy of someone who can make a suitable (fibreglass, originally...yup...!) leaf spring.

cheers

James

Neither "spring" does much, or at least that much. Take the shocks off a 960/90 with IRS II and drop the car and they will hit the bump stops with equal ease!!!

Normal springs should support the weight ok. I'm guessing all the cars you've tried that on, Des, had Nivomats.

cheers

Im really quite bemused. Ive just seen his updated post on ebay saying he will sell the car for £1,100 but would like more.

So either he was lying about being offered £1,350 and is now ****ting himself incase it doesn't go much over £1k, or my £1,200 in cold hard English cash, is just not good enough. Im baffled!!

Could it be the usual case of...currently not making the money he say's/hoped it would, so a friend etc is bidding it up for him....its about the only thing which fits and makes sense.

So the Top bidder figure isn't real...so to speak?
