Default How to diagnose bad strut mounts ?

I was wondering if you can judge the condition of the strut mount accordin to how the top nut behaves on left right steering ?

My strut nut is all over the place when i turn the wheel but it wasnt really straight when i replaced them some 8 months ago either...

I am getting this occasional click on full lock and I suspect the strut mount again. CV is rock steady. I can full throttle at full right lock and no noise...

Sounds like your strut top mount is goosed again, did you use quality mounts the first time around?

Volvo? Rather than a pattern part that'll last 6 months it is worth shelling out a bit more first time around to get genuine Volvo mounts.

So a nut that is doing circles when turning the wheel indicated a bad top mount ? nothing else over there ?

The nut itself is not getting loose, its 100% tight.
but the whole thing moves around inside the hole of the strut mount...

For example when I turn the wheel the screw and nut will almost touch the perimeter of that space.

Not sure if normal or not, because even when these cheap mounts were new, there was still some play.
Should it turn dead straight and stay secured in the exact same position ?

Any idea what Rufe charges for these ? He's been off the PM's for a while.. can't message him..
I'll just get originals and get it over with, but I hope it's not over 40 quid for each... ?

If the nut is moving around that much inside the housing there is a problem. The upper mount come in three parts, and the whole thing should be replaced.
The bad news is it's nearer £100 per side, including VAT and delivery.

i guess the backing plate is knackered + the bearing this happened to my car but i never checked to see if the nut was moving. it will cost you 70 - 80 quid as above it comes in 3 parts. mount - backing plate - bearing. eurocarparts have got one it skf but i think they only sell the mount.

Eurocarpart will only last for 6-12 months and then you will have to replace it all over again
