James, Your car has a product plate on panel above RHS headlight which gives brake type info.

E = Brakes
2: Girling front, ATE rear
3: DBA front, ATE rear
4: Girling front and rear
5: DBA front, Girling rear

Regards.

hmm, its not by the headlights anyway, ive found this:

The Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) should always be quoted in all correspondence concerning your vehicle with the dealer and when ordering parts.

1 Vehicle identification number (VIN)
VIN plate is located on top left surface of dashboard. The VIN is also stamped on the right hand door pillar.

2 Vehicle emission control information
Your Volvo is designed to meet all applicable safely and emissions standards, as evidenced by the certification label on the right side of the firewall. For further information regarding these regulations, please consult your Volvo dealer.

3 Model plate
Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). Codes for color and upholstery etc. This plate is located on panel above right headlight.

4 Loads and tire pressures

5 Federal motor vehicle safety standards (FMVSS) specifications (USA) and Ministry of Transport (CMVSS) Standards (Canada)
This label is located on rear facing side of the driver's door.

6 Service label
Label on left-rear door frame.
Information on certain components.

All specifications are subject to change without notice.

So i'll have a look at number 6 in a second.

* 2: Girling Front, ATE Rea
* 3: DBA/Bendix Front, ATE Rear
* 4: Girling Front and rear
* 5: DBA/Bendix Front, Girling Rear

So i went out. The plate is on the drivers side by the headlight, and there is no E in the second line anywhere so im none the wiser im afraid.

At the link to brake identification - there are pictures of each caliper (below). Compare yours.

Bendix is on the left, Girling on the right.

With the steering on full lock, you can easily see behind the wheel.

James, Sorry, I gave wrong position! The service plate you need is on left hand rear door frame on the "B" pillar. Codes from Haynes are:
1=Girling front & rear
2=Girling front, ATE rear
3=DBA front, ATE rear

Regards.
