I am thinking of getting the polestar upgrade for my engine. i looked on the website its quite expensive at £830. has anyone had this upgrade done on their engine and can you really feel the difference. Also on the website its says my car is 163bhp but when i asked the volvo dealship when i got it, they said mine is 175bhp..??????

Quite a few have had it done and it works well. You can negotiate on the price, I've got my dealer down to £670 so far and am pushing for £600 before I go ahead. You'll know what power output it is by looking at the door jam or under the bonnet, if it's a big silver cover with Volvo written on it it's a 163, if it's a 175 it has a big black cover with the iron mark on it

Hang on that didn't type out very well, if the door jam says 163 you're good. Also the old square badge on the grill means it's a 163. If the engine cover is silver then it's a 163 is what I meant. If it's a 175 it'll have the large Iron Mark badge and a black engine cover.

Hopefully that makes more sense

If a 2.4 163 polestar can be either 163 to 185bhp or for the same money you can have 163 to 205bhp. Polestar site defaults to first option but if you look at model overview it gives each model breakdown and what polestar options for each engine. Had mine done 18 months ago 0-40 not much in it but 40-80 massive difference. torque 251 to 332. Mine is a v70 2008. Worth shopping round as only takes 20 minutes so can have done while on a journey somewhere got mine for 500 pounds.

Had my 205PS D5 done a couple of months ago and the difference is subtle but very effective.
More torque lower down the rev range means less need to kickdown when pressing the loud pedal.
And the power delivery is far smoother and feels relentless all the way towards the rev limiter.
Definitely the best available and makes you wonder why they didn't leave the factory like this! :-D

Shop around for the best price. I think the cost price of the software alone is about £550 so factor in the workshop time to plug it into Vida and the mid-£600s isn't far off.
I can't grumble as I got mine free but I certainly wouldn't hesitate paying for it in the future after this experience.

sasha the engine cover is black and round volvo badge at front of bonnet. it still bothers me that a genuine volvo stamp says 163ps. Ive never had a volvo before and i love it but dont know what to look for. colin im scared to go aftermarket as i dont want to wreck my engine, at least with dealership i can get peace of mind..?????. mhon72 ive not asked the dealership who i bought m car off yet so hopefully they will give me a nice discount????..sorry new to this forum so dont know how to give you any photos

I paid £570 on my D4, well worth it, low down torque and midrange improved, makes a good car much more drivable. 175 to 195 but its the torque increase that makes the real difference.

Mark I was just pointing out maybe not clearly that polestar upgrade for a 163 2008 has two options and when I looked into it the dealers I rang all said I had to have the 163 to the d5 185bhp. They don't do many polestars and don't know a lot about it they just took the default option that came up first. I was on a trip down south so had mine done while away for the weekend. If yours is a 2.4 163 the polestar increase to a d5 205 is a big improvement as I felt it used to drive great but got over 40mph and was just steady increase. Now keeps going
