IPD anti-roll bar on ebay
Hi,
This IPD anti-roll bar may be of interest to 140 owners. 140127769128 (I recently fitted the equivalent item to my 164E and it made a very big improvement). John |

I was always tempted to go that route but changed springs/dampers instead, look at the pics and guess which one was modified.....
And yes, they are both going at the same rate! |

Good action shots! It does still look as though you get a lot of understeer. Is that just the particular corner or have you set it up that way?
On my 164, I have fitted Bilstein sport dampers all round, uprated lowered front springs and the IPD front anti-roll bar. Very successful, feels equivalent to a mid 90's BMW with factory sport suspension package - ie good handling but still comfortable. I tried uprated rear springs but they didn't really work... too harsh and bouncy. I think a live axle has too much unsprung weight to work with hard springs, unless in a racing set-up combined with ultra-stiff damping. I will add a small rear anti-roll bar when I get time, to even up the front/rear roll stiffness a little, then use shims to increase castor angle and/or negative camber at the front to banish any remaining understeer. Should be spot-on then! John |

It does understeer but much less than before! I also went the Bilstein route and have stuck with the uprated springs all round. The biggest difference since that shot was taken is the fitting of a LSD, it now positively shoots out of an autotest turn like that one and I think the youngsters would say that it drifts much better! I'd love to try all the different options but time, money etc etc....

Very interested in an LSD. Do you mind me asking where you got yours, and what was the cost?
Thanks John |

The unit is made OE by Dana in the USA. Got mine from John Parker at http://www.v-performance.com
About 2 years ago, it was about £400 new delivered to the UK. Brilliant bit of kit! |

Great, thanks. I put an LSD on my mk1 Cavalier (rwd) track car & made a massive difference.

That Anti Roll Bar is now in my attic with the rest of my 142 bits while I rebuild/restore the body.
